It was on this day, November 23rd, 1975, Queen started a nine-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with Bohemian Rhapsody. When the band first wanted to release the song as a single their record company pleaded against it saying, at almost 6 minutes in length, it was far too long. (A reenactment of that scene is hilariously played out in the new movie Bohemian Rhapsody with Mike Myers as the grumpy record rep). As we now know, the band got their way. And not only did they release the song as a single, Queen also made a promotional video of the song that is now generally acknowledged as being the very first pop video. Queen was way ahead of the times. So on the anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody defying the so called music ‘experts’ and becoming a huge hit, here again is that promotional video.
