If you got to see Neil Diamond when he visited Vancouver during the summer for his 50th anniversary tour—lucky you. We are not going to see him tour live again. Neil Diamond is retiring from performing, on doctors’ orders, after learning he has Parkinson’s disease. The news came as he cancelled a spring tour planed for Australia and New Zealand.
In a statement Neil said he took the decision “with great reluctance and disappointment. I have been so honoured to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years, my sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows. My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world,” he said. “You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement”.
Parkinson’s is a progressive condition in which the brain becomes damaged. It can lead to tremors, speech changes and memory problems. The good news is Neil will continue to work in the studio and records new music. Keep fighting Neil, and all the best.
