It was 37 years ago Terry Fox’s dream ended, but also began a-fresh at the same time. It was September 1, 1980, Terry, exhausted and in a stretcher, held his last news conference in Thunder Bay, Ontario to announce he was ending his Marathon Of Hope run across Canada. He told reporters “The cancer has spread, I now have cancer in my lungs. We gotta go home and try to do some more treatment, but if there is anyway I can get out there and finish the run I will”. Ten months later Terry died. He didn’t finish the run, but the rest of us did, and still are. His example and his legacy continue to raise millions for cancer research every year was we run for Terry in Terry Fox runs all over the world. That’s why today is a sad, but important anniversary.
