Autumn is a great time of year to create new routines or revisit ones you’ve set in the past. It almost feels like a “new year” for me. Routines can be a great way to maintain focus on your goals and stick to them.
Here are some to consider, that have worked for me.
1. Exercise
Working our regularly has been proven to improve your mood and help you sleep better. Even just 20 minutes a day can do wonders. Doing it first thing in the morning is encouraged as then you will face less disruptions through the rest of the day.
2. Create a schedule for the day.
I like to lay out my day and use blocks of time and assign tasks to them. I usually tackle emails in the morning over coffee, then slowly chip away at the “TO DO” list. I find having a list and checking things off as I go to be extremely satisfying.
3. Take time for you!
Be sure to plan something in your day that excites you. It can be as simple as sending someone a text, or calling someone. Deciding on dinner or dessert options or just what you are going to binge watch this evening. Having something to look forward to, always helps me push through the workday.
4. Plan for the days ahead.
In the evening after the kids are tucked in, I usually schedule about 10 minutes to map out the next day. What needs to be done around the house, what the kids may need for school that day, planning a grocery order if needed and even looking ahead to the weekend and things that need to be tackled then. This way I am not rushing to remember things right when we get up and are rushing to get to school or get work day started.
