From people to pets, it’s important that we find ways to stay cool and safe during record high temperatures this summer. That’s why 104.3 The Breeze is sharing some important tips to help beat the heat.
- Drink plenty of fluids – even before you feel thirsty and if you’re being more active, it’s important to stay hydrated. Water is always a solid choice.
- Avoid exercise or tiring work – if you must work or exercise, definitely hydrate regularly and be sure to allow for rest breaks in cooler or shaded areas.
- Keep cool and try not to overheat – outdoor shaded areas, air-conditioned buildings and cool showers, baths and pools are all options which help to lower body temperatures.
- Plan your day – limit activities to early morning or later afternoon, when the sun’s UV radiation is not as strong. Also make sure you are always protecting your skin with sunscreen.
- Clothes matter – lightweight, loose-fitting clothing along with hats, umbrellas and sunglasses are all added layers which help to protect from the sun, but also don’t feel too heavy or warm.
Don’t forget about the seniors, children and pets. While most of the tips above apply to both seniors and children, there are a few additional things to consider.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
- Protect your pet’s paws when outside.
- Try added ice cubes to pet’s water bowls and children’s bottles
- Fans can help to cool down smaller spaces
Keep cool and stay safe!
