
One day after B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the province is in a second wave of COVID-19, health officials are reporting 167 new cases of the virus for a total of 11,854 cases.
Thirteen new cases were in the Interior Health Authority taking the total here to 624, 47 of which are active cases with two people in hospital, one in ICU.
Provincewide, there are 69 individuals are hospitalized with COVID-19, 18 of whom are in intensive care.
Active cases increased to 1,688 with 4,156 people being monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.
Henry also reported one new death for a total of 254 people across the province.
“We have the ability to decide what our COVID-19 wave looks like in B.C. by continuing to take personal precautions and using our layers of protection, no matter where we may be,” Henry said.
“Despite the challenges that COVID-19 has brought, your efforts are making a difference and helping to slow the spread of the virus. Let’s continue to work together – while staying apart.”
As it stands, there are 9,871 people who tested positive for COVID-19 – about 83 per cent of the total – who are now considered to have recovered.
