This year’s golf season in Kamloops was anything but under par.
A combination of nice weather, limited smoke, and outdoor activity encouraged by BC Health Officials during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a banner year on the local links.
“In a word, tremendous,” said Kamloops Golf Club GM Alec Hubert.
“Usually a banner year is around 38,000 rounds played, but right now we are already at 42,000 rounds. It’s certainly been a profitable business this year and everyone has worked hard.”
The same holds true at Rivershore Golf Links, according to General Manager Kevin Oates.
“We’ve had a year like we haven’t had in many, many years,” he told NL Sports.
“It’s the pandemic that’s created this for us. People feel very safe on the golf course. Golf seems to be the thing to do during the pandemic. We will be well over 40,000 rounds. We’ve added 100 new members this season.”
Despite a slow start to the season because of COVID-19, Tourism Kamloops CEO Beverley DeSantis told city council in August that many golf courses are seeing a 60 per cent increase in play.
Kamloops Golf Club could call the season by November 1. Rivershore plans to play well into November.
