Henry’s also announced the first confirmed case of multi-system inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) in the province in a child under the age of five. She says the child was under investigation after showing symptoms which was confirmed as MIS-C when a COVID-19 serology test came back positive.
“The child has fully recovered and is now at home,” she said. “[The child] was diagnosed after their serology test came back positive for COVID-19 this week. To date, we have had 16 children who have been assessed for MIS-C, but they have not had any association with COVID-19.”
MIS-C has clinical similarities to Kawasaki Disease, with symptoms including fever, abdominal pain and rashes.
