It hit number one on this day, September 20th, 1969. 50 years later we still hear Sugar, Sugar on the radio all over the world, including The Breeze. It was written specifically for the Archie’s TV show by Canada’s own Andy Kim who sang on the recording along with a group of studio musicians. Sugar, Sugar would become the #1 song of 1969 in the US, spending 22 weeks on the Hot 100 chart, beating out songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder. It was a huge hit in the U.K. too. Many of us first heard it Saturday morning watching the Archie cartoon T.V show. So enjoy this blast from the past, that is still loved today!
