65 years ago today, a young man walked into Sun Records in Memphis, and the world of music changed. That man was Elvis Presley. He was just 19-years old when he was invited to play with two session musicians, Scotty Moore and Bill Black (pictured above), to make his first commercial recording. During a break Elvis was fooling around on his guitar and began strumming an old blues number “That’s All Right Mama”, but he played the song much song faster and with different groove than the original version. Producer Sam Phillips was blown away and had them repeat the jam to record it. It became Presley’s first release on Sun Records. That single was hailed by Rolling Stone magazine in 2004 as the very first rock-and-roll record and ushered in sonic revolution that is responsible for much of the music heard today. And of course much of the music we play on The Breeze. If you want to relive that musical jam that changed the world of music, click the video below and enjoy.
