It will be a longer wait for the Kamloops Blazers who were set to renew their rivalry with the Kelowna Rockets tonight.
Tonight’s game at Prospera Place has been called off because of a positive COVID-19 test in a staff member with the Rockets. In a statement, the WHL said no players have tested positive at this time.
“The WHL or Kelowna Rockets will not be providing any further comment at this time,” the statement said. “Pending determination of close contacts and further test results, the WHL will provide further information.”
This is the second time there’s been a positive test in a member of the Kelowna Rockets cohort. A positive test result was discovered during the initial return-to-play testing phase before the season began.
In announcing its return-to-play plan, the Western Hockey League said if any player or staff member tested positive for COVID-19 at any point during the season, all team activities would be suspended for a minimum of two weeks.
Its not clear yet when tonight’s game could be made up, those details will be announced at a later day.
The Blazers, meanwhile, are still scheduled to play the Victoria Royals at Prospera Place on Thursday night.
