British Columbians can start to reserve campsite in provincial parks this year in just under two weeks.
The BC Government says the online reservation system will open on March 8, and people will be able to book a campsite up to two months in advance of their arrival date. It also notes British Columbians will have priority access to campsite reservations throughout the summer, although people in other provinces can reserve campsites for the rest of the season starting July 8.
“Our provincial parks have never been as important as they are right now. They provide a special place to safely connect with nature and improve our health and well-being during these difficult times,” said Environment Minister George Heyman, in a statement.
“We are all looking forward to another summer of camping and outdoor recreation in B.C., and while public health concerns and advice remain, we are asking people to pick a campground as close to home as possible to avoid long road trips and non-essential travel.”
Given the impacts of COVID-19, the government is expecting this year’s camping season to be busy, and so people are being told to have backup dates and options should their preferred slot be unavailable.
People are also being cautioned that public health guidelines may change after they book a campsite, and they’re being told to ensure they follow all of the current public health guidelines in place.
“We are looking forward to another great season of taking care of our spectacular provincial parks and welcoming you into our campgrounds. We are doing everything we can to ensure our parks are safe for visitors,” said Eddie Wood, president, Society of Park Operators. “Many of our campgrounds will be very busy, so it’s important to plan ahead, follow public health guidelines, and enjoy B.C.’s outdoors.”
The government says reservations for day-use facilities, including picnic shelters and halls, will remain closed for the 2021 camping season.
