Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on unit 4B at Kelowna General Hospital.
It says as of this morning, four patients and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. An investigation is ongoing and patients with COVID-19 on unit 4B are being relocated to the hospital’s COVID unit.
“There is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission to other areas of the hospital at this time,” a statement from Interior Health said.
“Outbreak control measures are in place and a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, along with KGH clinical staff and leaders, are meeting daily to contain the outbreak.”
Interior Health says the hospital is safe to visit if people have appointments or need emergency care.
Meanwhile, the outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital – the other tertiary referral hospital in Interior Health – is over. As of today, there have been 105 cases – 69 staff and 36 patients – and four deaths linked to the outbreak in Kamloops.
